How to export your messages?
Visit accountscenter.facebook.com/info_and_permissions/dyi and do the following:
- Click Create export, pick your Facebook profile, then choose Export to device.
- Choose Customize information, deselect everything and tick only Messages.
- Set the date range to All time and the format to JSON (not HTML!). Media quality can stay low.
- Click Start export. Facebook will email you when it's ready (minutes to hours).
- Download the file(s) from the same page and unzip them.
- Come back here and choose the unzipped folder — the one containing
your_facebook_activity.
Everything is processed locally in your browser. Nothing is ever uploaded anywhere.
